Basics of Texas Hold’em Poker

June 24, 2009 | posted in online poker

Some casino gamblers like to play the occasional game of poker, and at the moment Texas Hold’em is where most of the action is found. In Texas Hold’em, players compete for chips (money) contributed to the pot.

This poker game is divided into a series of deals known as pre-flop (the two cards dealt to each player), flop, turn and lastly the river, with a round of betting after each series (the flop, turn and river are dealt face up on the board and shared by all players). At the conclusion of each hand, the pot is awarded to the player with the best hand. The other possibility for the conclusion of a hand is when all but one player has folded and thereby forfeits any claim to the pot, in which case the pot is awarded to the player who has not folded.

Winning poker players of Texas Holdem do not always win every hand, but they do make the correct decisions of when and how much to bet, raise, call or fold. In the long run this leads to building up their chip stack, maximizing their long-term earnings !
